I chose to focus on the theme of home through a series of 5 photos displaying the daily routine of my aunt growing up. I started to get a sense of what addiction was at the age of 7 as I watched her walk around the house, put on her makeup, even eat her breakfast without putting her cigarette down. Home was uncomfortable to me. I often felt like a fish in a fishbowl, different from all the others due to my perspective: isolated and trying to find my way out. Yet I felt like she had the power to hold us together, I didn't have the choice, I simply had to deal with it. Though life has changed, to this day her actions still had a clear effect on those around her. I try to show this through the dead flowers that represents how the action from one individual can strongly affect those around them. To us the effect was both emotional through our disagreements in the family and of course physical with the detrimental factors of smoke my cousins and I faced. So what is home? It is not only my present but it is also my past.
